Greetings Colleagues and Friends:

I am honored and privileged to have been elected to serve as the North Carolina Central University Faculty Senate Chair for the 2018-2019 academic year.  This is an exciting time for the University as we are in the midst of progressive growth and development.  Accompanied by our executive leadership team, our faculty senate is committed to supporting the NCCU Eagle Promise as we equally continue to embrace the UNC System Strategic Plan.

As we (the executive committee and senators) will continue to represent the bastion of faculty shared governance at North Carolina Central University, it is equally imperative that our senate begin an internal restructuring and retrenching process that will enable us to better meet the needs of a growing generationally diverse faculty.

While we continue to pursue innovation and creativity in our research and professional development endeavors, as a faculty we must never stray from the fundamental objective of the enterprise known as North Carolina Central University; our students.  Our mission, Truth and Service must, and should always be at the forefront of why we are here.   To be a faculty member of NCCU means we have cosigned to accept a greater challenge.

In our classrooms and other faculty capacities, as we execute our diverse set of skills and talents to insure that our students fulfill our Eagle Promise, we must never waver in our collective energies to guarantee that the Eagle Promise works for faculty as well.

In this coming year, undoubtedly we will face obstacles.  That said, our perception guides our reality.  I challenge all my fellow colleagues to resist viewing these obstacles as problems; instead, we should view them as missing pieces of a puzzle of which every stakeholder, from our administration, our support staff, to our students, all aid in solving the mysteries which lie ahead.   We must never forget, regardless of station, as colleagues, our superordinate goal is to lift as we climb; always forward, never backward.

On behalf of our executive committee, we eagerly embrace the greater challenge, always forward, never backward.

Kindly yours,

W. Russell Robinson, Ph.D.
