Accreditation
About Accreditation
Accreditation is a process of external quality review used by higher education to scrutinize colleges, universities, and educational programs for quality assurance and quality improvement. Institutions and programs seek accreditation to assure their academic quality to students and the public (Council of Higher Education Accreditation [2016]).
Two types of accreditation are regional and programmatic. Regional accreditation is granted to entire institutions of higher education. Specialized or programmatic accreditation focuses on a single educational program and is related to a specific discipline. North Carolina Central University holds both types of accreditation. In addition, five administrative units at the university are accredited by their respective accrediting agencies.
Regional or Institutional Accreditation
North Carolina Central University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degrees. Contact the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia, 30033-4097, or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of North Carolina Central University.
