The North Carolina Central University Continuing Education Division offers lifelong learning opportunities. Course activities include workshops, conferences, seminars, short programs, courses, and other structured educational experiences for students. Most programs offer certificates, though learners receive no college degree credits. The activities are designed for life enrichment and agency certification renewal, if applicable. Courses offered include in-service training for teachers, health workers, and other professions; corporate-sponsored training; training programs for units of government or industry; and personal enrichment programs. Other programs offered by the Division of Extended Studies include management training, medical billing and coding, travel agent training, wedding planning, and grant writing. Programs or courses that are requested by an agency or organization are held at sites on or away from NCCU's main campus and are customized to meet the specific needs of the customer.

English Listening and Speaking Course - $150.00 (2.6 CEU) - Register
Whole-person wellness depends on at least seven dimensions: physical, emotional, spiritual, vocational, environmental, social, and intellectual. This module addresses each of these primary dimensions of wellness and provides strategies for maximizing wellness through the aging process. Purpose, mindfulness, and activity programming will be among the specific topics for discussion. Students are also introduced to the effects of race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, social and economic differences, and cross-cultural variations in the perceptions and treatment of aging adults.
The purpose of the Certificate in Aging is to teach health and mental-health professionals effective and evidenced informed ways to work with the aging population in a variety of settings. Certificates of completion will be offered after each workshop and a final certificate will be awarded when all requirements have been met. Participants not seeking the certificate program are welcome to take individual workshops.

Effective Social Work Practice with Older Adults - $125.00 (2.5 CEU) - Register
This module focuses on the impact of effective social work practice with older adults. Particular attention will be given to discharge planning, ethical decision making, addressing ethical dilemmas, and interventions for addressing common ethical dilemmas.
End-of-Life Issues - $125.00 (2.5 CEU) - Register
Professionals working with clients at the end of their life are dealing with a powerful and complex process. This module will address the topic of "What is dying well?"(physically, emotionally and spiritually) and the religious and cultural differences that play a role in this. Other topics include how to empower caregivers in the end-of-life situation, advocacy for the client, grieving rituals, and how to help clients with the planning of the funeral.
Aging and Family Caregiving - $125.00 (2.5 CEU) - Register
In this module, professionals will learn how the aging process affects both the individual and their family. Other topics include promoting tasks of a family caregiver, communicating with aging adults, and policies affecting aging adults and their families. Services of the Family Caregiver Alliance will be reviewed and innovative evidenced-based programs identified.
Aging Well Working With Aging Adults of Diverse Cultures - $125.00 (2.5 CEU) - Register

ACVREP Core Domain Workshops for CATIS Certification - Register
This course is designed to meet the Core Domain proficiencies outlined by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) for Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialists (CATIS). It may also be taken as a review course in preparation for sitting on the exam for CATIS. The course will cover the three core domain areas of assessment, technology, and instruction. These broad areas will be covered with consideration for both school-age educators and adult rehabilitation specialists. In class, the content will support out-of-class reading or review in order to allow for deep and meaningful discussions tapping the expertise of all involved in the workshops.
